Building Bridges: Connecting Students to Design at Comcast
One of the biggest misconceptions about design is that it only lives in agencies, startups, or the tech giants everyone knows. So when the opportunity came up to represent Comcast at Drexel’s Creative Industries Day, I knew it was something worth making happen.
Philadelphia has a deep pool of design talent, and this event was a chance to connect directly with students - many of whom had no idea Comcast even had a design team. Alongside other Philly-based companies, we spent the day talking to hundreds of students about the creative disciplines within Global Design, answering questions about everything from industrial design to UX to the intersection of design and technology.
It was a strong turnout for the event’s first year, and a great reminder of how important it is to show up in spaces like this. There’s no shortage of talented designers coming out of Drexel and other local schools, but if they don’t know about opportunities beyond the usual paths, those connections never happen.
Huge thanks to Clare Athaide from University Relations for fielding internship and co-op questions and to Sarah Cheng from our Operations team for helping make the day a success. Events like this don’t just benefit students - they help companies like ours build relationships with the next generation of designers and open doors that might not have existed otherwise.
Looking forward to seeing how we can grow this next year.
